Our 2015 Featured Artist

Oceana Madrone

Beading and quilting have been a lifelong passion for me.  I use the time honored tradition of sewing and beading by hand or on my trusty treadle sewing machine.
My art is a mirror of my life.  It reflects who I've been, who I am, and who I hope to become.
My art is my effort to create order out of chaos, and to transform pain and survival into strength and beauty.  Since 1992 I have been working with survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault using art and quilts as healing tools.  Art gives women and children a voice to tell their story, a place to channel the strong emotions of pain, fear, and anger, as well as an opportunity to find hope while exploring future possibilities.
Art doesn't make the hard things go away.  It does help me to find joy and continue on my path of healing and discovery.  I love the color, texture and sparkle of fabric and beads.  I create images of beauty and magic.  Life is a magical gift.  There is beauty all around us if we take the time to see it an appreciate it.

New this year
Each year we will honor a local fiber producer.

             Ace Vandenack

Ace owns and operates  Ace-In-the-Hole Ranch near Myers Flat in Southern Humboldt.  He raises natural colored and white Romney sheep.  He strives to produce high quality seed stock as well as premium covered fleeces and pelts in a sustainable environment. He has won many awards for both his beautiful fleeces and his awesome sheep.  He will demonstrate shearing a sheep on Saturday at noon.  Come talk to him during the fair about what it means to be a good Shepherd.
