Description:
Create small, expressive hand-stitched works of art to wear, share, or treasure. In this inspiring workshop, you’ll design and stitch unique patches for clothing, bags, and everyday items, along with pins and pendants that reflect your style. Using simple techniques and playful exploration, you’ll stitch items like botanicals, birds, insects, or meaningful symbols, transforming fabric into personal expressions of creativity and story. Discover how small stitches can carry big meaning and individuality.

What materials and/or advanced preparation will students need for your class?
Fabrics: April will bring some fabrics, but feel free to bring some of your own for the background.
Vintage and repurposed fabrics from clothing are great.
Cottons, silks, and linens are suitable for this project. Maximum size: 6”- 8” squares
** When choosing fabrics for your background, you want your stitching to show up.
Other Items:
Extra embroidery floss if you have some, or you want specific colors
Markers for fabric:
Frixion Pens # 31557, set of 3 colors (Amazon, or Staples) heat-erasable
Ultra Fine Point Sharpie, Black
Hand embroidery needles
Embroidery sharps, 1 assorted pack, sizes 5/10 work best.
Recommended brands: DMC, Bohin, John James, or Mary Arden
Bring:
Basic Sewing Kit: including sharp small scissors for embroidery, and scissors for cutting paper, straight pins, regular hand sewing needles, thread for basting, and a small piece of beeswax for your thread.
Blue painter’s tape ¾” or whatever width you have.
Ruler, rotary cutter, and if you have one a small cutting mat.
Sheet of fine grit sandpaper and scratch paper for drawing (You don’t need a color wheel unless you have one)

Student Handouts, and a Design Pack
Fabrics: An assortment of small fabric pieces for the background of your patch and pin
Design transfer, paper, silk stabilizer, felt backing and a metal clasp for the pin
Embroidery Floss: an assortment of floss will be provided to share in class
